Ehsaas Emergency Program in Pakistan

The Emergency Health and Safety Assistance Scheme (Ehsaas) is a welfare scheme that aims to help people in need with basic needs. The program is accessible to everyone and is free of charge. People can apply for this scheme by providing their biometric details. It is important to register with the National Socioeconomic Registry (NSER) as it will help NADRA to check the eligibility of the recipients.

15 million families

The Ehsaas emergency program provides cash assistance to low-income families. The programme is made possible with the support of the International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group. The crisis-resistant social protection programme aims to help poor and vulnerable families cope with the effects of natural disasters and emergencies. This is especially important in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme aims to help over 15 million families in Pakistan. The government has allocated over PKR 50 billion under the program. The cash aid is distributed through the government’s toll-free helpline. The government has also launched an official website for the initiative.

Those families whose total monthly income is less than PKR 50,000 are eligible to apply for the subsidy program. To qualify, they must have a public character card (CNIC) with details entered in the National Socioeconomic Registry (NSER). Applicants are also required to provide their biometric credentials. Without biometric credentials, recipients cannot access ATMs or POS banking. Each individual recipient is verified by NADRA to ensure their identity and financial capacity.

To be effective, the Ehsaas Emergency Cash program must be widely implemented as soon as possible to combat the effects of the economic crisis and ensure gender equity. A larger-scale social protection program that systematically opens bank accounts and provides formal financial services to the poor is an important step in reducing poverty and increasing the chances of economic prosperity. The government must ensure that more women are registered as beneficiaries to ensure equal access to the program.

As of April 1, 2020, the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program is targeting more than 15 million households. The total budget for the program is estimated at Rs 203 billion. To apply, individuals can send their CNIC numbers to a dedicated SMS number (CNIC 8171) until April 19. A web portal for applying for Ehsaas Emergency Cash has also been developed to make the application process more convenient for candidates.

4.5 million individuals

As the country’s economic crisis continues to worsen, the government has been expanding its emergency assistance programs to help the most vulnerable citizens. A new program, known as Ehsaas Emergency Cash, aims to help more than 4.5 million individuals. It uses a national socio-economic registry to verify individuals’ identity and eligibility. Applicants must score 32 or lower to be eligible for this program.

Currently, the Ehsaas Emergency Cash program in Pakistan has approved cash assistance for 10 million people, a figure that is expected to grow to 67 million beneficiaries. Under the program, each family will receive Rs 12,000 to address immediate needs. Additionally, 4.5 million people currently receiving Ehsaas Kafaalat will receive additional emergency cash assistance for four months.

Another key goal of the Ehsaas emergency program is to increase financial inclusion among low-income populations. The program encourages financial inclusion initiatives, including mobile banking. It also improves access to mobile phones and promotes interoperability among payment service providers.

Ehsaas should expand its safety net and ensure that the most deserving households receive help. This is especially important if the programme is to include a significant number of new beneficiaries. In addition, it should engage the most vulnerable households in the program to help them transition to productive and self-sufficient households.

Rs. 144 billion budget

The government is increasing the budget for the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program from Rs144 billion to Rs203 billion, which will help about 16.9 million people. The programme will offer a four-month stipend of Rs12,000 to eligible households. As the economic situation remains difficult for many families, this new aid package will help these people cope with the financial crisis.

Several innovative and novel measures have been taken to implement the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme. First, a mobile SMS service has been introduced, which will help identify the deserving families. Beneficiaries can send a text message to 8171 to check their eligibility status. If they are eligible, they will receive a message informing them about how to collect their money. Secondly, the program has a web portal that facilitates verification via NADRA.

A new initiative is also being introduced to increase the amount of available money for the Ehsaas program. The Pakistan government has approved a multi-sectoral relief package worth PKR 1.2 trillion, which is equal to $8 billion USD. The money will be channeled to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to purchase the necessary equipment. In addition, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is providing support to the Planning Commission to help implement the emergency plan.
